What is Plantar Fasciitis?
Plantar Fasciitis is the thickening and inflammation of the plantar fascia. This is the tissue that runs along the sole of your foot, it connects at the heel and the ball of the foot. There can be many contributing factors to developing plantar fasciitis. It can be very painful and can affect your ability to walk.
Causes
The most common causes of plantar fasciitis include but are not limited to:
- Sudden increase of exercise intensity
- Constant change between heeled and flat shoes
- A tight Achilles tendon
- Being on your feet for the majority of the day
- Being overweight or obese
- Have flat feet or a high arch
Symptoms
The most common symptoms of plantar fasciitis mostly include but are not limited to:
- Heel and Arch
- Pain on the bottom of the heel
- Worse pain in the morning or on standing
- Pain when putting pressure or weight on the affected foot
- Affected ability to walk
Treatments
Treatments for plantar fasciitis include but are not limited to:
- Orthotics
- Anti-inflammatory medication
- Icing to reduce inflammation
- Night splints
- Rest
- Immobilisation
- Wearing shoes with shock absorption
- Stretching and exercising the foot
- No walking bare foot
- Class 4 laser
- Shockwave Therapy
