What is Achilles Tendonitis?
A condition that causes pain, swelling, stiffness and weakness of the Achilles tendon which joins your heel bone to your calf muscles. It caused by repeated tiny injuries causing microscopic tears to the Achilles tendon. Achilles Tendinopathy is the swelling and pain of your Achilles tendon.
Causes
The most common causes of Achilles Tendonitis include but are not limited to:
- Foot positioning in regular footwear
- Inflexible calf muscles
- An accelerated increase in training quantity or intensity among athletes
- Arthritis
- Bone spurs
- Age
- Weight
Symptoms
The most common symptoms of Achilles Tendonitis include but are not limited to:
- Pain
- Achilles tendon swelling
- Severe pain along the tendon, especially during and after exercise
- Stiffness of the tendon
- Bone spurs
Treatments
Treatments for Achilles Tendonitis include but are not limited to:
- Orthotics
- Stretching & strengthening exercises
- Ice
- Rest
- Steroid Injections
- Physical Therapy
- Laser and Shockwave
